Brittany Maschal Consulting is seeking an experienced college admissions counselor to join our growing team on a part-time, contractor basis.
This role is ideal for a former admissions officer, high school college counselor, or independent educational consultant who enjoys working directly with students and families and can confidently manage the college search and application process from start to finish.
Our counselors are more than advisors. They serve as strategists, project managers, coaches, editors, and accountability partners. We are looking for someone who can help students develop thoughtful college lists, craft compelling applications, meet deadlines early, and navigate an increasingly complex admissions landscape with confidence.
The majority of our students are high school juniors and seniors applying to a wide range of institutions. A strong candidate will be enthusiastic about helping a student find the best-fit institution regardless of ranking or admit rate.
About Us & Our Philosophy
Our work is grounded in fit over prestige. While we support students applying to highly selective institutions, we are equally passionate about helping students discover colleges and universities where they will thrive academically, socially, and personally. We believe there are hundreds of excellent colleges in the United States, and helping students identify the right match is one of the most important parts of our work.
We expect students to take ownership of the process. Rather than doing the work for them, we provide structure, strategy, accountability, and support so they can develop the skills necessary to navigate complex decisions and advocate for themselves.
Successful counselors on our team bring a clear process and structure to their work while adapting their approach to each student's needs. They are proactive, highly responsive, thoughtful, and willing to roll up their sleeves to help families move forward when challenges arise.
This role is not a good fit for someone who wants to simply answer admissions questions or spend excessive time on Zoom talking. Most of our work, in fact, is asynchronous. We are action-oriented and expect students to work independently. Your role is to help students execute a thoughtful plan from beginning to end.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience as an independent educational consultant, college counselor, admissions officer, or a combination of these roles
- Direct experience working one-on-one with students and families throughout the college admissions process
- Deep knowledge of U.S. higher education and college admissions
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills

- Comfort having difficult conversations with students and parents when expectations need to be recalibrated
- Demonstrated success managing multiple students, deadlines, and competing priorities simultaneously
- Availability during evenings and weekends, particularly during peak admissions season (June-November)
Please do not apply if your experience is limited primarily to students applying to highly selective colleges and universities. Our students apply across the admissions spectrum, and familiarity with a broad range of institutions is essential.

Additional Notes
The strongest candidates will bring both admissions expertise and a genuine interest in mentoring young people through an important period of growth and self-discovery. We are looking for counselors willing to get in the trenches with students and families when needed. Some scrappiness goes a long way in this role.
We need coaches who are proactive, energetic, solutions-oriented, and willing to do what needs to be done to help students move forward. If you prefer a highly structured environment where someone else manages timelines, tasks, and follow-up, this role is unlikely to be a fit.
