Job Description
The part-time Lower School Associate Teacher reports to the applicable Division Director and is an integral part of the teaching faculty. The part-time Lower School Associate Teacher partners on instruction with an interdisciplinary approach, finding authentic ways to connect course materials to students’ understandings. Our teachers bring warmth, patience, and understanding to the classroom every day, encouraging children to learn and grow.

Assist the Group Teacher in encouraging lifelong thinking and exploration for students through various open-ended materials: blocks, paint, clay, paper, wood, sand, and water.

Assist the Group Teacher in developing, revising, and teaching of Lower School curriculum (Nursery through Second Grade).

Collaborate with Group Teacher, the Student Support Team, Specialists, and Division Director to find ways to integrate instruction with other curricular subjects, namely social studies.

Assist the Group Teacher in maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

Communicate effectively and establish strong working partnerships with families, students, colleagues, and administrators.

Assist the Group Teacher in writing reports and conducting Parent/Teacher conferences.

Weekly Hours: Mon.-Fri. 8:30-1:00 p.m., plus Wed. 1:00-3:30 p.m. prep and meeting time

Attend weekly Staff Meetings, Wed. 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Attend twice-monthly Associate Meetings Tues. 8:00-8:30 a.m.

Substitute for cooperating teachers as needed.

Experience working with young children, 2 years - 3 years old

Desire for professional development and interest in pursuing a teaching career

Developmental knowledge of and experience with early childhood age children

An associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred

Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues and children

Familiarity with integrated, experiential, progressive education

Commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion

Effective classroom management skills

Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
This position has a salary range of $32,626 - $35,449 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This part-time (27 hours/ week) bargaining unit position is in-person five days per week at the school’s campus in Manhattan’s West Village.
