Position Overview
The main function of this position is to provide direct and indirect care under supervision of the nurse to a selected group of residents. This role can be in skilled care department or assisted living department. The minimum education, experience and qualifications for this position are: current certification as a nursing assistant with the Illinois Department of Public Health; able to speak, read, write and comprehend English skills needed to use medical terminology on the job; ability to do simple arithmetic; good communication skills; interest in working with older adults; and general knowledge of the needs of geriatric residents
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct restorative care per therapy prescription and assignment by the Restorative Nurse.
- Documents residents’ progress accurately and in a timely fashion to verify that the specified nursing measure was completed in the appropriate computer program.
- Assists other CNAs in carrying out restorative tasks.
- Communicates daily with supervisor regarding performance of residents. Notifies supervisor when a resident appears to be regressing or refuses to participate in program.
- Follows restorative nursing care policy and procedures.
- Attends meetings as assigned, care-plan conferences, and in-service training sessions.
- Works with therapies to facilitate transition from therapies to Restorative programs.
- Participates as assigned to a QAPI project
- Responsible to learn and use standard functions within software and know basic operation of computer to enhance efficiency in resident/patient service, assessment and/or clinical documentation. Responsible to use computers and software as required by work environment in order to enhance communication, performance and knowledge.
- Completes all assigned computer education modules in a timely Fashion
- Assists on the nursing units as a C.N.A. as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Restorative Nurse.
Qualifications & Skills
- CNA Certification in the state of Illinois.
- Restorative Certification preferred not required.
- CPR certified, Accredited by American Heart Association.
- Reading, writing, and comprehension skilled needed to use medical terminology on the job.
- Ability to do simple arithmetic.
- Good communication skills.
- Long-term care experience preferred but not required.
- General knowledge of the needs of general patients.
