Mechanic – Public Works

Full-Time | Hourly | Union Position
Lower Swatara Township is hiring an experienced Mechanic to support the Public Works Department. This position performs maintenance and repairs on Township vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, and construction equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs
- Repair electrical, hydraulic, brake, cooling, and drivetrain systems
- Weld and fabricate parts and tools as needed
- Perform PA State vehicle inspections
- Provide snow plowing/salting and after-hours emergency response as required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of related mechanical experience
- PA CDL Class B with appropriate endorsements
- PA State Certified Mechanic License
- PA Underground Storage Tank Operator – Class C
- Strong mechanical, diagnostic, and communication skills
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Some after-hours, weekend, and emergency response required
- Ability to perform heavy physical work and work indoors/outdoors year-round
Pay & Benefits
- Rate of pay per Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

- Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug and alcohol testing
