Transportation Supervisor - Full Time (Exempt)

The Transportation Supervisor oversees the daily operations and workload of the Transportation Department. Coordinates schedules for transportation personnel, directly supervises drivers, and serves as a liaison between residents and drivers to address transportation-related concerns. Provides excellent customer service to residents while performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervises transportation personnel and assigns specific responsibilities as needed.
- Assists with hiring and training new drivers.
- Ensures daily transportation department activities are implemented effectively.
- Prepares transportation department schedules to meet residents’ service needs.
- Determines the number of vehicles and trips required and assigns drivers accordingly.
- Adjusts schedules as needed for resident or staff emergencies and rotates drivers appropriately.
- Maintains logs of all trips completed by the Transportation Department.
- Maintains caring, compassionate, and respectful relationships with residents.
- Communicates and collaborates with supervisors and department heads, and keeps the Safety and Security Director informed of any issues or potential concerns within the Transportation Department.
- Maintains positive employee relations.
- Evaluates the performance and efficiency of transportation operations and implements adjustments as needed.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and maintains safety standards within the Transportation Department.
- Conducts vehicle maintenance audits and safety checks, including verifying adequate fuel levels and ensuring all vehicles are in safe, reliable operating condition.
- Ensures cleanliness of all vehicles.
- Schedules maintenance or preventative care when needed for vehicles.
- Inspects and reports damaged equipment, including vehicle, lift or safety system immediately to Director of Safety & Security.
- Reports all unusual conditions, behaviors, and/or resident complaints to the appropriate nursing supervisor.
- Responds and reacts in a kind, polite and professional manner to the residents, families, visitors, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Protects confidential information concerning residents, family and/or the organization.
- Adheres to all organizational, departmental, and transportation procedures in the performance of the position responsibilities.
- Performs other duties in keeping with the nature of this position, which will not significantly alter the job requirements.
- Maintains acceptable driver record and report any changes in their driver's record to their supervisor. Must be registered and approved by the facility's insurance company.
- Follows all traffic signs and obeys all traffic laws.
- Attends organizational or departmental conferences and/or in-services as scheduled.
- Must interact courteously, tactfully, and politely with managers, co-workers, residents, vendors, or associates to preserve productivity and moral.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises multiple employees within the Transportation Department and is responsible for the department’s overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; recognizing and addressing employee performance; resolving complaints; and managing workplace issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Several years of supervisory experience and experience transporting passengers’ preferable senior population. CDL with passenger endorsement is required. Knowledgably of transportation runs and able to follow assigned schedules accurately. Must be CPR certified or ability to obtain once hired.
