Position Overview: Masons are responsible for constructing and repairing structures made from materials such as brick, block, stone, and concrete. This role involves interpreting blueprints, performing precise measurements, and using specialized tools to ensure high-quality workmanship. Masons play a key role in building and maintaining both residential and commercial structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction and Repair:
- Build and repair walls, partitions, and structures using bricks, blocks, stones, and other masonry materials.
- Lay out work according to blueprints, specifications, and drawings.
- Mix and apply mortar or other bonding agents as needed.
Technical Tasks:
- Cut and shape materials to fit specific dimensions and design requirements.
- Ensure the proper alignment, level, and finish of masonry work.
- Use various tools and equipment, including trowels, levels, and saws, to complete tasks.
Site Preparation and Safety:
- Prepare and clean construction sites, including the setup of scaffolding and safety barriers.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Quality Control:
- Inspect work to ensure it meets quality standards and adheres to design specifications.
- Make adjustments or corrections as necessary to achieve desired results.
Material Handling:
- Select and prepare materials based on project requirements.
- Ensure the proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage and wastage.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other masons, laborers, and construction personnel to complete projects efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
Documentation:
- Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered.
- Report progress and any concerns to the supervisor or project manager.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience as a mason is required. Experience with various masonry techniques and materials is preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of masonry techniques, and the ability to operate relevant tools and machinery.
- Education: Formal training or certification in masonry is a preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Work Environment:
- Construction sites with exposure to varying weather conditions and physical demands.
- Requires extended periods of standing, bending, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Travel up to 2 hours at times depending on jobsite
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $90.00 per hour
