Job Summary
A1 Professional Asphalt & Sealing is seeking a motivated, personable, and sales-driven Construction Estimator / Sales Representative to help grow our business.
This is more than an estimating position. We are looking for someone who can build relationships, communicate with customers, identify opportunities, prepare accurate estimates, follow up consistently, and help close work.
The right person will be comfortable working with customers, using computers and estimating tools, visiting job sites, attending networking events, and learning how to estimate projects from civil plans.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, takes ownership of their work, and wants to play an important role in the growth of the company.
ResponsibilitiesSales & Customer Relationships
- Answer incoming customer phone calls professionally and promptly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers.
- Develop relationships with property managers, business owners, general contractors, developers, and other decision-makers.
- Follow up consistently on estimates, proposals, and open sales opportunities.
- Communicate with customers by phone, email, text, and in person.
- Identify additional sales opportunities while visiting customer properties.
- Help turn leads and estimates into signed work.
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the sales process.
- Provide professional customer service before, during, and after the sale.
Networking & Business Development
- Attend networking meetings, business events, pre-bid meetings, and industry functions.
- Build relationships with contractors, property managers, businesses, municipalities, and other potential clients.
- Help generate new leads and develop new business opportunities.
- Represent A1 Professional Asphalt & Sealing professionally in the community.
- Maintain relationships with past customers to help generate repeat business and referrals.
Estimating
- Visit job sites to inspect project conditions and determine the scope of work.
- Take measurements, photographs, notes, and other information necessary to prepare accurate estimates.
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid requirements.
- Prepare detailed estimates and customer proposals.
- Determine material quantities, labor requirements, equipment needs, and project costs.
- Understand company pricing, production rates, overhead, and profit requirements.
- Research material and subcontractor pricing when necessary.
- Learn and maintain knowledge of asphalt paving, sealcoating, crack filling, striping, excavation, concrete, and related construction services.
- Review estimates carefully before submitting them to customers.
Civil Plans & Commercial Bidding
- Read and interpret civil construction plans.
- Perform takeoffs from project drawings and specifications.
- Understand quantities, measurements, details, notes, and project requirements shown on civil plans.
- Prepare bids for commercial, municipal, and general contractor projects.
- Review bid invitations, specifications, addendums, and project requirements.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required.
- Communicate with general contractors, engineers, property managers, and other project stakeholders when clarification is needed.
Sales Follow-Up & Closing
- Follow up on outstanding proposals until a decision is made.
- Ask customers for the sale and work toward closing qualified opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of customer conversations, estimates, and follow-up activity.
- Keep management informed of important sales opportunities and customer concerns.
- Help maintain a healthy sales pipeline.
- Track won, lost, and pending estimates.
- Learn from lost bids and identify ways to improve future pricing and sales performance.
Job Handoff & Coordination
While this is primarily a sales and estimating position, the estimator must provide a clean handoff once a project is sold.
Responsibilities include:
- Clearly communicate the approved scope of work to the operations team.
- Provide job notes, measurements, drawings, photos, customer expectations, and special requirements.
- Communicate important scheduling or access information.
- Help clarify the original estimate if questions arise during production.
- Assist with customer communication when changes or additional work are identified.
This position is not intended to be a full-time project management role.
Computer & Technology Skills
The successful candidate must be comfortable using computers and technology.
This includes:

- Estimating software
- Digital plans and drawings
- Online bid platforms
- Customer relationship management systems
- Basic file organization and document management
- Smartphones and mobile applications used in the field
Training may be provided on company-specific systems, but the employee must be comfortable learning and using technology.
Qualifications
- Construction estimating or construction sales experience preferred.
- Asphalt, paving, sealcoating, excavation, concrete, or civil construction experience is a plus.
- Ability or willingness to learn how to read civil plans and perform takeoffs.
- Strong sales and customer-service skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking with customers and building professional relationships.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to write professional emails and proposals.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and opportunities at the same time.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel locally to customer properties, job sites, meetings, and networking events.

Position Goal
The primary goal of the Construction Estimator / Sales Representative is to help A1 Professional Asphalt & Sealing generate profitable work by combining accurate estimating, strong customer relationships, consistent follow-up, networking, and professional salesmanship.
Success in this role will be measured by the quality and accuracy of estimates, customer relationships, follow-up, sales performance, profitable work generated, and overall contribution to company growth.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
