Position Overview
Essential Responsibilities
The Maitre d' is responsible for creating an exceptional first and last impression while managing the flow of service throughout the evening. This role balances warmth with organization, ensuring every guest feels recognized, cared for, and excited to spend time in our space.
You will be working closely with management, bartenders, servers, and the kitchen, as you coordinate reservations, seating, waitlists, and guest communication to provide seamless hospitality during every service.
Guest-Facing Service & Hospitality
- Welcome every guest with genuine warmth and professionalism.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists while maximizing the flow of service.
- Coordinate seating to support the pace of the dining room and bar.
- Learn the preferences of regular guests and recognize VIPs and special occasions.
- Maintain clear communication between the host stand, bar, kitchen, and service team.
- Monitor guest satisfaction and proactively resolve concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Provide accurate wait times and keep guests informed throughout their visit.
- Answer phones, manage reservations, and assist with inquiries about private events and large parties.
- Keep the entrance, host stand, and waiting area clean, organized, and inviting.
- Support the service team during peak hours whenever needed.
- Help create a positive, energetic atmosphere that reflects our hospitality standards.
- Perform nightly checkout procedures including reconciliation of cash, tips, and sales when necessary
- Assist in closing and securing the bar and restaurant when applicable
- Deliver warm, knowledgeable, and attentive service to guests at the bar and in the dining room, embodying the values of gracious hospitality
- Engage in genuine, professional dialogue with guests, establishing rapport and creating memorable experiences
- Provide informed recommendations on cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and food pairings based on guest preferences
- Respond promptly and graciously to guest concerns, special requests, and feedback, escalating issues to management when necessary
- Maintain awareness of guest pacing and flow of service; anticipate needs and time beverages accordingly
- Participate in seasonal cocktail development, menu rollouts, and beverage tastings when applicable
- Maintain familiarity with the menu, daily features, item availability, and pricing
- Act as a brand ambassador for The Arvada Tavern, upholding the tone, personality, and style of service unique to the venue
Alcohol Compliance, Safety & Guest Wellbeing
- Check identification for all guests, adhering strictly to Colorado alcohol service laws
- Monitor guest alcohol consumption and demeanor; make sound decisions and alert management as needed regarding overconsumption or unsafe behavior
- Refuse service in a professional and non-confrontational manner when necessary
- Maintain valid TIPS certification at all times
Teamwork, Culture & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with other bartenders, servers, hosts, managers, and kitchen staff
- Support fellow team members by anticipating needs and contributing to a smooth, respectful working environment
- Attend pre-shift meetings, menu trainings, compliance briefings, and team development sessions
- Follow all uniform, grooming, and conduct standards as outlined in the employee handbook
- Maintain punctuality and reliability in all scheduled shifts
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Current certification in TIPS
- 2+ years of hospitality experience in a craft-focused or high-volume environment
- Familiarity with POS & reservation systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; warm and professional demeanor
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to self-manage in a fast-paced setting
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical & Environmental Requirements
To successfully perform the essential functions of this position at The Arvada Tavern must be able to meet the following physical and environmental requirements:
Standing & Mobility
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods of time, up to 10 hours per shift, on hard surfaces
- Frequent movement throughout the bar, dining room, and guest areas is required
Lifting & Carrying
- Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 30 lbs regularly (e.g., cases of spirits, glassware trays, kegs); occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required
Alcohol Compliance & Guest Safety
- Must verify and check IDs consistently and accurately as needed
- Responsible for monitoring alcohol consumption and reporting concerns related to intoxication or guest behavior to management
Work Conditions
- Exposure to variable indoor and outdoor temperatures (including heat from dish machines, ice bins, and patio doors)
- Varying lighting conditions (low light during service hours)
- Moderate to high noise levels during peak hours
- Contact with cleaning solutions, sanitizers, and other chemicals
Schedule Flexibility
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Shifts typically range from 6-10 hours and include late-night closing responsibilities
- Must be comfortable adapting to changes in scheduling based on business volume or seasonality

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
