We are hiring an experienced Care Professional in Columbia to support clients requiring strong dementia experience, emotional steadiness, excellent follow-through, and dependable daily care execution.
This is not a light companionship role. These homes require a caregiver who can confidently manage routines, maintain professionalism with strong personalities, and provide thoughtful, attentive support while helping clients feel respected, engaged, and safe.
- Tuesday through Saturday
- Typically 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Some days may shift to approximately 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Approximately 35 hours/week

One primary client is a retired biochemist and former MU professional who enjoys reading, photography, music, crossword puzzles, birds, conversation, and quiet companionship. They uses a wheelchair, experiences memory loss, and benefits greatly from calm engagement, hydration support, structured routines, and meaningful interaction throughout the day.
This role also requires working professionally within homes where family dynamics and expectations may sometimes feel challenging or direct. The right caregiver will not become defensive or passive.
- Read aloud, do puzzles/cards, play music, and encourage participation
- Support structured daily routines
- Provide medication reminders
- Prepare/setup breakfast and lunch, and track hydration throughout the day
- Assist with dressing, personal care, shower support, and mobility support
- Support hearing aid use when needed
- Perform light housekeeping and laundry
- Redirect gently and calmly when confusion or resistance occurs
- Balance hands-on care with emotional connection and dignity
A successful caregiver in this role:
- Creates a calm, predictable environment
- Maintains routines without becoming rigid or controlling
- Can handle direct communication styles professionally
- Follows care expectations closely without needing constant oversight
- Keeps the client engaged, hydrated, safe, and emotionally comfortable
- Communicates clearly with the office and family
- Advanced Alzheimer’s/dementia experience strongly preferred
- Experience with wheelchair and walker support required
- Experience providing personal care and ADL support required
- Strong reliability and attendance history required
- Emotionally steady, patient, observant, and proactive
- Must NOT have cat allergies
- Prefers passive companionship-only assignments
- Needs constant direction
- Avoids hands-on care
- Becomes overwhelmed by strong personalities or detailed expectations
- Has inconsistent reliability
