Job Description
The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, auxiliary systems, and facility support systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role works independently on routine and intermediate‑level maintenance issues, performs emergency repairs during production, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The Technician II applies mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic skills to minimize downtime and support quality, safety, and production goals.
Roles and Responsibilities
Equipment & Machine Maintenance
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair manufacturing equipment, injection molding machines, paint line equipment, and secondary systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) per established schedules, procedures, and standard work.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns during production to restore equipment functionality and minimize downtime.
- Remove defective components and install repaired or replacement parts.
- Adjust, align, and calibrate equipment to ensure proper and consistent operation.
- Perform fabrication and repair of parts when feasible using shop tools and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
Electrical, Mechanical & Systems Support
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Perform welding and cutting of materials as required for repairs or modifications.
- Support installation, removal, or modification of production equipment and machinery.
- Maintain tools to ensure equipment operates at designed cycle rates.
Facility Maintenance Support (as Assigned)
- Perform general facility maintenance tasks not directly related to manufacturing, including:
- Minor electrical repairs
- Carpentry, drywall, and drop ceiling repair
- Minor plumbing work
- Concrete repair and finishing
- Floor repair and painting
- Use lifts or Genie Boom equipment as required to perform work at heights.
- Assist with snow removal, basic vehicle servicing, and interior/exterior building upkeep.
- Support daily Gemba safety walks and facility housekeeping.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times.
- Comply with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain clean work areas using 5S standards.
- Support TS/IATF 16949 quality system requirements.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or potential equipment failures.
- Work collaboratively with Quality, Engineering, Production, and EHS teams on problem solving.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Complete maintenance work orders, PM records, and repair documentation accurately and timely.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
- Support training and mentoring of Maintenance Technician I or trainee employees as assigned.
- Maintain good attendance, professionalism, and commitment to company objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Skill and Education Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; trade school preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance.
- Experience in injection molding, paint systems, or automated manufacturing preferred.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of:
- Electrical systems
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics
- Mechanical systems
- Basic understanding of injection molding processes and equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair production equipment independently.
- Experience with welding and fabrication.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Basic computer skills for work orders and documentation.

Training & Certification Requirements
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification required.

- Genie Boom / lift operation certification required or ability to obtain.
- Willingness to complete additional equipment or safety training as required.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and moving of equipment and components.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to push or pull up to 250 pounds with assistance.

Work Environment
- Manufacturing and facility environments.
- Exposure to moving machinery, airborne particles, fumes, oils, chemicals, and noise.
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, wet, or humid conditions.
- Required use of PPE.
- Typical schedule is 8–10 hours per day, five days per week.
- Must be available for overtime, off‑shift, or emergency repairs as needed.
Authority
- Authority to stop production or shut down equipment when safety or product quality is at risk.
- Authority to perform repairs and part replacements within training and authorization scope.
- Authority to prioritize urgent repairs based on production needs and supervisor direction.
- Authority to recommend equipment or maintenance improvements.
- Authority to escalate unresolved equipment or safety concerns to supervision.
