For over 50 years, we’ve earned a reputation for delivering high-quality, detail-driven work in some of the region’s most complex and sensitive environments.
The Skilled Laborer is a key hands-on role supporting our field teams on projects that often involve active hospitals, research labs, and clinical spaces. This position is ideal for someone with a strong construction skill set, a commitment to craftsmanship, and the ability to adapt in fast-paced, precision-focused settings.
Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on construction tasks including selective demolition, layout, rough and finish carpentry, backing, blocking, drywall, painting, and hardware installation.
- Assist in setting up containment, infection control barriers, and temporary partitions in occupied healthcare and lab facilities.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and secure job sites, often in sterile or controlled environments.
- Interpret and follow direction from drawings (a plus) and supervision to execute work accurately.
- Support layout and installation of architectural and specialty components in medical and laboratory spaces.
- Safely operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and basic construction equipment.
- Assist with staging, deliveries, and protection of existing building components.
- Follow site-specific safety and infection control protocols rigorously.
- Work alongside foremen, superintendents, and trades to ensure timely and high-quality execution of project goals.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years (a plus) of commercial construction or skilled trade experience, preferably with work in healthcare or laboratory environments.
- Strong working knowledge of general construction practices, tools, and materials.
- Experience working under infection control conditions or within occupied clinical spaces is highly valued.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings is a plus.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to take direction in high-expectation settings.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to job sites throughout Southern or Central Maine.
Langford & Low offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, along with opportunities for advancement and continuing trade development.
