Responsibilities
- Assist with specimen collection, processing, and management in accordance with laboratory procedures and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations
- Prepare biological samples for testing, including venipuncture, spinal taps, and other specimen collection techniques
- Maintain laboratory equipment, manage laboratory information systems (LIS), and ensure proper documentation of all procedures
- Support laboratory management by organizing samples, tracking data entry, and maintaining accurate records of specimen details
- Follow aseptic techniques during sample handling to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and clients, providing excellent customer service while maintaining patient confidentiality
- Adhere to clinical confidentiality policies and uphold the highest standards of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology understanding in all tasks
Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory management, techniques, and procedures including phlebotomy and catheterization methods
- Experience working in research or clinical laboratories with familiarity of CLIA regulations and hospital protocols
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and data entry accuracy
- Knowledge of biological sample management, specimen processing, and medical terminology
- Ability to perform venipuncture, spinal taps, and other invasive procedures with precision and care
- Excellent client communication skills combined with a customer-focused approach
- Basic life support (BLS) certification preferred; ability to follow clinical confidentiality policies diligently
- Familiarity with veterinary or pediatric terminology is a plus for specialized settings
