Job Summary
Nema Enclosures is seeking a proven, experienced Mechanical Assembler to join our manufacturing team. This is NOT an entry-level packing or light kitting position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a sheet metal or industrial manufacturing environment, assembling custom NEMA-rated electrical enclosures, cabinets, and junction boxes. You must be skilled in reading engineering drawings/Bills of Materials (BOMs), installing mechanical hardware (hinges, latches, door gaskets, mounting plates), and operating power/pneumatic hand tools.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Align, fit, and mechanically assemble fabricated sheet metal enclosure bodies, doors, mounting pans, and backplates according to engineering drawings.
- Install mechanical hardware including hinges, quarter-turn latches, handles, locks, 3-point latching systems, and mounting feet.
- Apply continuous foam-in-place or strip gaskets to enclosure doors to ensure water-tight and dust-tight NEMA ratings (NEMA 3R, 4, 4X, 12).
- Take precision measurements using calipers, tape measures, and square alignment tools to verify tight part fitments and door tolerances.
- Inspect final assembled enclosures for cosmetic defects, proper door alignment, gasket seals, and mechanical functionality before final packing.
- Maintain high quality standards, log completed production jobs, and adhere to 5S shop floor cleanliness and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in mechanical assembly & sheet metal fabrication within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to mechanical assemblies.
- Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, shop math, and other precision measuring instruments for quality assurance.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly processes including soldering, machining, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Experience with interpreting technical drawings and manufacturing documents to ensure accurate assembly.
- Familiarity with pneumatic tools, specialized industrial tools, and safety practices including PPE use.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely while maintaining attention to detail during assembly operations.
