We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) to join our dynamic surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, demonstrate exceptional patient care skills, and have experience working in diverse surgical environments. As an OR RN, you will be responsible for providing safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Duties
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile techniques are in place prior to procedures.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgeries by providing instrument handling, tissue management, and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Monitor patient vital signs and overall condition throughout surgical procedures, responding promptly to any changes or complications.
- Administer medications, including anesthesia and pain management agents, following strict protocols and safety standards.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide preoperative assessments and postoperative care instructions to patients and their families for optimal recovery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgical technologists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless surgical operations.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to minimize risk of infection or contamination during procedures.
Experience
Candidates should possess prior experience working as an Operating Room Nurse in fast-paced hospital environments or ambulatory surgery centers. Experience with a broad range of surgical specialties is preferred, including but not limited to: ophthalmology, cardiac catheterization, trauma medicine at Level I or Level II trauma centers, neurosurgery such as PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), orthopedics involving orthopedic surgeries, and general medical-surgical procedures. Additional valuable experience includes: critical care settings such as ICU or CCU (Coronary Care Unit), emergency medicine environments including triage and urgent care units, as well as familiarity with ICD-10 coding for documentation purposes. Knowledge of advanced nursing skills such as suturing, IV infusion administration, ventilator management, specimen collection/processing, and working with individuals with disabilities enhances your suitability for this role. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are highly desirable. Prior experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is essential for efficient documentation and communication within the healthcare team.
