Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Truck Technician who will be responsible for successfully performing a wide range of preventative maintenance and repair services on light to heavy trucks. This role requires strong diagnostic abilities, a commitment to quality, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. This is a crucial position for ensuring accurate and lasting repairs that resolve customer concerns the first time.
Responsibilities
Diagnosis and Repair:
- Respond to customer complaints by performing test drives and using appropriate scan tools (J-Pro, Cummins Insite, etc.) to diagnose issues.
- Diagnose and repair steering, suspension, and brake systems, including ABS.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on lighting systems, driveshaft U-joints, and carrier bearings.
- Use diagnostic codes, descriptions, and test results to accurately identify the cause and cure for failures.
- Research repair processes and procedures to ensure you are capable of performing the proposed repairs.
Service & Maintenance:
- Perform preventative maintenance services on a variety of trucks.
- Use an Android-based tablet with our shop management software to clock in/out of specific service orders, track time, and communicate findings.
- Record all diagnostic codes, descriptions, and test results.
- Predict an accurate amount of time needed to complete a repair.
Customer & Communication:
- Use our "complaint, cause, cure, and prevention of reoccurrences" model to accurately communicate findings to service writers.
- Recommend all necessary parts for a repair, including hardware, seals, gaskets, and fluids.
- Proactively identify what could go wrong with a proposed repair and develop a secondary plan as needed.
Shop Environment:
- Safely operate and maintain shop tools and equipment, including our wide array of specialized tools and diagnostic laptops.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, dry, and organized workspace.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Previous experience in vehicle maintenance is required.
- Diagnostic skills and knowledge of the repair process are essential.
- Strong written communication skills for accurate documentation.
- Proficiency in using hand tools.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of air brake systems.
- Experience with steering and suspension, including alignments (training available).
- Ability to read electrical schematics to perform pinpoint testing.
- Knowledge of inspection processes for both automotive and commercial vehicles.
- Familiarity with hydraulic system basics.
Personal Attributes:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptability to service and repair auxiliary equipment (air compressors, generators, pumps).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A high level of professional accountability.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: Good pay is commensurate with experience and ability.
- Incentive Bonus: Monthly incentive bonus plan for 100% efficiency and above.
- Work Hours: Typically 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Thursday.
- Shop Environment: A roomy 7,300 sq ft shop that is kept clean, dry, and warm in the winter.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $45.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
