Work Experience
Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I assigned to the Transplant & Vascular Surgery Unit (Nights) delivers direct patient care, including the measurement of vital signs, collection of blood specimens, and assistance with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, and mobility. This position entails continuous monitoring of patient condition, accurate documentation of care provided, support with patient admissions and discharges, and effective collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to maintain patient safety and comfort. Additional responsibilities encompass wound care management, specimen collection, urinary catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, and prompt response to patient alarms. The technician is responsible for maintaining a safe clinical environment, adhering strictly to established safety protocols, facilitating efficient patient flow, and performing other duties as assigned to enhance patient outcomes.
Benefits
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, previous direct patient care experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. Successful candidates will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork, and the capability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in high-pressure environments. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computer systems, accuracy in obtaining and documenting blood glucose results, and competence in performing delegated nursing tasks with respect for the age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic requirements of patients.
