Job Description and Duties

MAINTENANCE AIDE (SEASONAL) – GREAT BASIN DISTRICT / MOJAVE SECTOR / RED ROCK CANYON STATE PARK

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The reporting location for this position is Red Rock Canyon State Park in Cantil, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.

This position requires the physical agility and capability to carry out tasks assigned to the maintenance function. Responsibilities include but are not limited to litter and garbage collection and disposal; cleaning and maintaining picnic areas, restrooms, offices, and visitor centers; assisting with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, vandalism repairs, road and trail maintenance, fence repairs, and special projects as directed. This position is a uniformed classification and is required to maintain an appearance conforming to Department standards.

The work schedule for this position will be Wednesday through Saturday from 6:00am to 4:30pm. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions

Ocassionally requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 60 pounds.

Use hand and power tools applicable to position and necessary to the task.

May entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, lifting, carrying, and reaching on uneven and slippery surfaces.

Climbing ladders, using power and noise producing tools and equipment, operating motorized vehicles and construction equipment.

Requires use of safety equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, gloves, ear protection, and respirator.

Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, wind, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

Outdoor work is common.
