Closets by Rebecca is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined person to join our shop as a Closet & Cabinet Shop Assistant.
We manufacture custom closets, cabinets, kitchens, and other built-in cabinetry in our South Florida shop. This is an entry-level trade position, but it is not a general labor position requiring no experience. We are looking for someone who has already worked with tools and has basic experience around woodworking, cabinetry, construction, remodeling, or a similar hands-on trade.
You do not need to be an experienced cabinetmaker. This position is intended for someone who already has basic hands-on skills and wants to learn the closet, kitchen, and cabinet manufacturing trade while working alongside an experienced lead closet and cabinet maker.
What You Will Do
You will assist our lead closet and cabinet maker with the daily production of custom closets, kitchen cabinets, and other cabinetry, including:
- Handling and moving sheet goods and finished components
- Assisting with cutting materials on a sliding table saw
- Drilling, boring, and preparing closet and cabinet components
- Assisting with edgebanding and other shop machinery
- Using drills, drivers, hand tools, and measuring tools
- Reading measurements and following cut lists and production instructions
- Assembling cabinets, drawers, shelving, and closet components
- Helping manufacture kitchen base cabinets, upper cabinets, and other cabinetry
- Organizing materials and preparing completed work for installation
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient shop
- Learning our manufacturing methods and taking on greater responsibility as your skills develop
Who We Are Looking For
The right person will have some previous hands-on experience with power tools and shop equipment. You should already be comfortable using a drill and have some familiarity with equipment such as a table saw, sliding table saw, panel saw, or similar machinery.
You should have good manual dexterity, understand basic measurements, and be comfortable working with your hands throughout the day.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is:
- Dependable and shows up consistently and on time
- Comfortable working with tools and machinery
- Safety-conscious and attentive
- Able to measure accurately and follow instructions
- Willing to learn our methods and the way we manufacture our products
- Comfortable starting in an assistant role and earning greater responsibility through performance
- Interested in developing a skilled trade rather than simply looking for a temporary
- job
- Able to work cooperatively with an experienced lead closet and cabinet maker
Experience
Some hands-on experience in cabinetry, woodworking, carpentry, construction, remodeling, installation, manufacturing, or a similar trade is strongly preferred.
Extensive cabinetmaking experience is not required. However, applicants who have never worked with power tools or shop machinery may not be a good fit for this position.
Physical Requirements
This is an active shop position. Applicants must be able to stand for extended periods, handle full-size sheet materials with assistance, lift and carry cabinet components and materials, and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
Opportunity to Learn a Trade
We are looking for someone we can train and develop over time. You will work directly with an experienced closet and cabinet maker and learn the processes involved in manufacturing custom closets, kitchens, and cabinetry. As your skills, reliability, and ability to work independently increase, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities.
