Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Master Tailor with extensive experience in garment construction, professional fittings, complex alterations, garment reconstruction, and custom work.
The primary responsibility of this position is tailoring and alterations. The selected candidate will also be expected to understand the basic flow of store operations so that alteration orders are received, documented, processed, tracked, and returned accurately.
Our customer-service team manages the regular front-counter and store responsibilities. However, the tailor should be comfortable assisting with alteration-related customer needs or basic store support when reasonably necessary.
This is not an entry-level sewing position. Applicants must have advanced tailoring skills and the ability to complete work independently from fitting through final inspection.
Responsibilities
- Conduct professional fittings and accurately pin, measure, and mark garments.
- Perform basic and advanced alterations on men’s and women’s clothing.
- Alter suits, jackets, trousers, dresses, skirts, shirts, coats, uniforms, gowns, and specialty garments.
- Complete jacket and suit reconstruction, sleeve shortening, waist suppression, tapering, hemming, relining, zipper replacement, resizing, and garment reshaping.
- Perform bridal, formalwear, designer-garment, and specialty alterations.
- Create, reconstruct, or modify custom garments when requested.
- Advise customers on garment fit, construction, and recommended alterations.
- Accurately assess the work required and communicate appropriate pricing and completion expectations.
- Complete orders by the promised due date.
- Inspect completed garments for proper fit, finishing, stitching, pressing, and overall quality.
- Maintain a clean, professional, and organized tailoring workspace.
- Communicate clearly with the customer-service team regarding pricing, special instructions, fittings, and completion dates.
- Learn and follow the store’s procedures for receiving garments, documenting alteration instructions, attaching tickets, tracking orders, and preparing completed garments for customer pickup.
- Understand the basic dry-cleaning and garment-care workflow as it relates to alteration orders.
- Assist customers with alteration-related questions, fittings, or order pickup when needed.
- Provide limited support with basic store operations when necessary, without taking away from the primary tailoring responsibilities.
