About the Bishop Estates Barracudas
The (BEST) is a community-based recreational swim team of about 70 swimmers that promotes a fun, family-oriented environment balancing fitness and healthy competition. We welcome swimmers of all levels and focus on strong technique, purposeful training, and personal growth. Our events and traditions bring families together, making support and community the foundation of our team’s success.
Assistant Coach Position Summary:
The Bishop Estates Swim Team (BEST) board of directors is seeking a motivated and skilled Assistant Swim Coach to join our team for the 2027 summer season, and possibly beyond. The Assistant Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and motivating swimmers of all ages and abilities in a positive, safe, and fun environment. This position contributes to all aspects of the summer swim team program — including practices, meets, learn-to-swim program, junior coaches, and some parent communications — to foster both skill development and team spirit in alignment with the team’s philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting safe, effective, and appropriate practice sessions for all levels.
- Provide instruction in all strokes, starts, turns, and skills, with an emphasis on proper technique and individual improvement.
- Help develop and implement training plans in collaboration with the Head Coach.
- Supervise and coach athletes during practices, meets, and team activities.
- Assist with athlete evaluation, goal setting, and performance development.
- Support team leadership and foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and coaching staff.
- Help manage team logistics, including meet entries, equipment, and facility needs, such as lane ropes and Cuda Spirit Coordination.
- Ensure athlete safety and enforce all team and facility policies and rules.
- Assist the Head Coach with administrative duties and other program needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Prior competitive and recreational swimming experience (high school, college, or equivalent)
- 1-2+ years of swim coaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics, training principles, and meet procedures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children ages 3-18 of all ability levels, parents, and volunteers.
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding (or ability to obtain before the season starts)
- Local travel is required for scheduled swim meets and off-site team activities. This includes most Wednesday evenings and weekends during the summer
Season & Compensation:
Season: April 1, 2027 – August 7, 2027; plus awards night in mid-August.
Compensation: Competitive seasonal stipend of $7,500-$10,000 based on experience. Additional opportunities for private lessons or clinics may be available
