Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients experiencing acute health crises across diverse age groups and medical conditions. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using advanced EMR systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Provide immediate interventions for acute conditions, including airway management, IV infusion, suturing, and medication administration.
- Manage complex cases involving trauma, cardiac emergencies, infectious diseases, and critical care situations within a Level I or Level II trauma center setting.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with hospital protocols and best practices.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, radiologic procedures like CT scans, and assist with procedures including catheterization and ventilator management.
- Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques, infection control standards, HIPAA regulations, and medical documentation accuracy.
- Support triage processes by prioritizing patient needs efficiently while managing multiple urgent cases simultaneously.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, pain management strategies, and post-acute care options including hospice & palliative medicine.
- Maintain proficiency in ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical terminology to ensure precise documentation for billing and case management.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and hospital policies.
Experience
- Minimum of two years of emergency room experience in a high-volume hospital or trauma center environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Critical care experience including ICU or PICU settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of trauma medicine protocols at Level I or Level II trauma centers.
- Experience with advanced procedures such as tube feeding management, spinal taps, sonography, and sterile processing.
- Familiarity with infectious disease care practices and infection control protocols.
- Strong understanding of pharmacology related to acute pain management and medication administration.
- Prior experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
- Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments while maintaining compassionate patient care standards.
