Title: Fleet Manager
Department: Transportation
Reports to (Title): Assistant Director of Transportation (Service Operations)
Major Functions:
Maintain accountability for the safe operation and mechanical condition of assigned school buses to include
performing preventive and corrective maintenance.
Monitors and evaluates maintenance personnel (Fleet Maintenance Mechanic I, II, and III).
Inspects work performed by mechanics and other personnel. Ensures proper standards of repair
work are maintained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain safe school transportation fleet.
- Supervise and assist bus drivers and bus aides as needed.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of your own professional mechanics tools and equipment.
- Protect and maintain any tools and equipment furnished by Desoto County Schools.
- Reduce inconvenience and downtime of fleet.
- Maintains safety standards in conformance with state regulations.
- Report to the Assistant Director of Service Operations any unsafe practices or violations of state
transportation laws.
- Respond to concerns from DCS personnel, parents, students, and the public.
- Serves as a substitute bus driver or bus aide as needed.
- Work cooperatively with all DCS personnel.
- Comply with all DCS policies and procedures including the Mississippi Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may assigned by the supervisor or
superintendent.
- Maintain confidently and privacy of all Desoto County Schools’ records.
Minimum Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent. Preferred certified diesel mechanic.
- Ability to meet all qualifications of a DCS bus driver or bus aide.
- Ability to successfully accomplish the duties and responsibilities listed above.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Additional Qualifications: Fleet Manager II
Complete at least one (1) School Bus ASE certifications (or approved equivalent).
Additional Qualifications: Fleet Manager III
Complete at least four (4) ASE certifications (or approved equivalents).
Additional Qualifications: Fleet Manager IV
Complete qualifications for ASE Master School Bus Technician.
