Online Special Education Teacher
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Online Special Education Teacher provides specially designed instruction and case management services to students with disabilities in a virtual learning environment. The teacher is responsible for ensuring students receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) through standards-based instruction, individualized supports, and compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Develops and implements individualized instruction aligned with Idaho Content Standards, students' IEPs, and district goals for online education.
- Provides specially designed instruction and accommodations to students with disabilities through synchronous and asynchronous virtual instruction.
- Serves as the case manager for assigned students, ensuring compliance with IDEA, the Idaho Special Education Manual, and district policies.
- Develops, reviews, and implements IEPs, including present levels of performance, measurable annual goals, accommodations, modifications, and transition plans as appropriate.
- Schedules and facilitates virtual IEP meetings while maintaining required timelines and documentation.
- Monitors student progress toward IEP goals and communicates progress to families as required.
- Collaborates with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented effectively in the online classroom.
- Works closely with related service providers, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, school psychologists, counselors, and other specialists to coordinate student services.
- Maintains accurate and timely special education records, including progress monitoring, service logs, evaluations, and compliance documentation.
- Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Creates and delivers engaging virtual lessons using digital tools, multimedia resources, and learning management systems.
- Promotes a safe, inclusive, and supportive online learning environment that encourages student engagement, independence, and success.
- Maintains regular, proactive communication with students and families regarding academic progress, attendance, and support services.
- Participates in eligibility meetings, reevaluations, manifestation determinations, transition planning, and other special education processes as assigned.
- Participates in professional development and stays current on instructional best practices, educational technology, online education, and special education requirements.
- Collaborates with colleagues, support staff, and administrators to ensure student success and contribute to a positive virtual school culture.
- Attends virtual staff meetings, trainings, IEP meetings, and other required district events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, or district leadership.
Certification/License
- Valid Idaho Special Education Certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s).
- Must meet all Idaho certification requirements for the assigned grade levels and instructional responsibilities.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Prior successful teaching experience preferred, particularly in online or hybrid learning environments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,252.00 - $71,880.60 per year
