Duties
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and oral examinations.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options tailored to their needs.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and comfort.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix), documenting treatment notes, medical records, and medical coding.
- Follow strict infection prevention protocols using aseptic techniques, adhering to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Operate dental equipment safely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with healthcare infection control standards.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, supporting seamless communication within the team.
- Support patient care by monitoring vital signs and assisting with medical imaging procedures as needed.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice.
- Proficiency in dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with EMR/EHR management is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental x-ray techniques.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively on dental care practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control measures, including aseptic technique.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment supporting chairside assisting duties when necessary.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance management and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
