I have cerebral palsy and use a power wheelchair. I need a dependable person for weekend shifts in Amarillo.
Shifts available: Morning: 7am – 3pm (priority shift) Evening: 6pm – 11:30pm Friday through Sunday. One or both shifts may be filled — up to two people hired.
The work: Bathing, dressing, meals, restroom assistance, repositioning in wheelchair and bed. Patient lifts are used — minimal heavy lifting required—light housekeeping. You will drive a handicapped-accessible van (valid driver's license required). We go out regularly for meals, errands, Church on Sunday and entertainment. Once I'm up and settled, I typically go 5–6 hours without needing much.
What I need most: Someone who shows up. If something comes up, tell me in advance. That's the job.
Experience is a plus but not required. Reliability is non-negotiable.
Requirements:
- Valid driver's license
- CPR certification (an approved online course is available for approximately $14 and takes about one hour — cost is reimbursed upon hire)
About the application: This position is funded through the State of Texas and requires a state application — it is a fillable PDF, approximately 30 pages. Complete instructions for filling it out and returning it are included. If you don't have a scanner at home, free scan-to-email is available at the Amarillo Public Library.
When you apply: Send me a message here. Tell me a little about yourself and your availability.
