Heavy Plate WelderWeldments Inc.Position Description
Weldments Inc. is looking for an experienced Heavy Plate Welder to join our team.
We build custom industrial fabrications including machine bases, gearbox housings, crane components, and other heavy weldments. Material thickness typically ranges from 3/8" to 6" plate using .052 GMAW wire and .045 FCAW.
This is a working weld shop. The work isn't always clean, the parts are often large, and every job is different. We're looking for someone who enjoys welding, takes pride in their work, and wants steady hours.
Fitters will fit and tack the majority of the work. Your primary responsibility is producing quality welds that meet our standards and AWS D1.1 requirements.
Responsibilities
- Weld heavy plate steel components using MIG welding processes.
- Perform fillet welds ranging from 3/8" single pass to 2" multi pass.
- Produce welds that meet quality requirements for size, penetration, and appearance.
- Maintain consistent weld quality throughout the project.
- Understand proper weld sequencing and heat control to minimize distortion.
- Operate grinders and basic hand tools as needed.
- Utilize overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts to position weldments safely.
- Inspect your own work and correct issues before sending parts to the next operation.
- Maintain welding equipment and work area in safe operating condition.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Proven experience welding heavy plate steel.
- Ability to pass an AWS D1.1 weld test.
- Strong MIG welding experience.
- Ability to consistently produce quality welds.
- Pride in workmanship and attention to detail.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
