A NYC Council Member in Southeast Queens is seeking a Constituent Services Liaison with strong written and verbal communications skills. The candidate is expected to monitor and update the Council Member on district and local issues. This position is a forward-facing role, representing the Council Member and acting in the interest of the community. The Constituent Services Liaison serves as a representative for the Council Member at the district offices. Their duties include, but are not limited to, answering casework correspondence and telephones, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, attending evening, weekend events and meetings. The candidate must be flexible and able to attend meetings and events on nights and at weekends. They must demonstrate the ability to work independently and as a team member. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to logging incoming and outgoing correspondence, handling visitors, telephone calls, weekend events, and computer operations. Southeast Queens’ ties are preferred but not required.
SALARY:
$58,491
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Thorough knowledge of legislative process and of New York City Council Members and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal agencies.
- Knowledge of all issues and events in the district in which the Member is involved.
- Professional telephone matter.
- Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of casework responsibilities.
- Ability to advocate on behalf of constituents with various city agencies and entities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 2+ Years Relevant Experience.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with an attention to detail.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, often under short and shifting deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Interest in and knowledge of city issues, including those relevant to Council District 31 and its neighborhoods.
- Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently, and to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Creative, flexible thinker and problem-solver.

New York City residency is required within 90 days of appointment.
