The Facility Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the nursing home’s physical plant, equipment, and grounds are safe, well-maintained, and fully operational. This role supports a comfortable, clean, and secure environment for residents, staff, and visitors by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and mechanical equipment.
- Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all facility equipment, systems, and resident safety devices.
- Ensure the facility remains in compliance with safety, fire, and health codes; assist with survey readiness and inspections.
- Respond promptly to maintenance service requests from staff and residents.
- Oversee upkeep of the building’s interior and exterior, including flooring, walls, roofing, landscaping, and parking areas.
- Monitor and maintain the operation of the emergency generator and life safety systems (sprinklers, alarms, extinguishers, etc.).
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and work orders.
- Collaborate with outside contractors and vendors; supervise on-site repair or construction projects as needed.
- Assist with snow removal, grounds keeping, and general custodial tasks when necessary.
- Follow all infection control and safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Provide input into budgeting for capital improvements and equipment replacement.
- Be available for emergency on-call maintenance needs after hours.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in maintenance, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC preferred.
- 2+ years of maintenance experience, preferably in a healthcare or nursing home environment.
- Knowledge of building systems, fire safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, climb, and perform manual tasks as required.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
