Restaurant General Manager - Press Club at Ballad Brewing
About the Role
Press Club at Ballad Brewing is seeking an energetic and motivated General Manager to lead our restaurant and bar operations with passion and precision. In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily operations, lead and develop our staff, ensure an outstanding guest experience, and take ownership of the restaurant's financial performance. Your leadership will inspire your team to deliver memorable dining experiences while upholding high standards of food safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
- Lead all aspects of restaurant management, including staffing, training, and team development to foster a motivated and cohesive workforce
- Select and hire talent through effective interviewing and job skill/shift matching
- Provide coaching, direction, praise, and feedback to Team Members, Shift Managers, and Assistant Managers
- Oversee labor and staffing levels, stepping in to resolve any scheduling issues to ensure appropriate coverage based on projected sales, promotions, and hourly sales trends
Operations & Guest Experience
- Ensure each guest receives outstanding service in a friendly environment that upholds company standards
- Supervise shift operations, including cash handling and workflow, to ensure smooth service during peak hours
- Direct efficient, accurate preparation and sale of products to maximize the guest experience
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary restaurant environment, including preventive maintenance of facilities and equipment
Food Safety & Quality
- Oversee food preparation and cooking processes to ensure compliance with health regulations and quality standards
- Ensure staff are properly trained in food handling, portioning, and waste-reduction practices, with hands-on training conducted by the Kitchen Manager
Financial & Inventory Management
- Oversee inventory control, ordering, and stocking — managed by the Kitchen Manager using the Toast POS system — to optimize food costs and minimize waste
- Oversee inventory accuracy, including the verification of nightly inventory counts, and submit all invoices and receipts to the main office
- Analyze profit and loss (P&L) statements and financial reports to identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost reduction
- Take full responsibility for the restaurant's financial results as reflected in the P&L, implementing strategies to meet financial goals while following cash control and security procedures
- Oversee office tasks including fund management and the receiving and ordering of food, submitting invoices and receipts to the main office, and ordering any and all needed office supplies
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to restaurant operations and employee relations
- Manage worker's compensation and guest injury procedures per company policy
- Enforce compliance through staff meetings, restaurant walk-throughs, observations, and audits
- Handle employee relations issues, including disciplinary actions when necessary
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of restaurant management experience
- Proven leadership ability to guide, inspire, and develop a team
- Strong understanding of food service industry operations
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong problem-solving skills for handling unexpected circumstances (staffing shortages, guest complaints, etc.)
- Financial acumen to manage budgets and maintain profitability
- Analytical skills to interpret reports and make data-driven decisions
- Experience with restaurant management/POS software (Toast preferred)
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Reliable attendance and punctuality for shifts, meetings, and training
Compensation & Benefits
- $60,000 – $80,000 per year, based on experience
- Health insurance stipend available
