Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
- Develop innovative instructional materials that incorporate current learning technology and pedagogical best practices.
- Conduct classroom management to maintain a respectful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Provide individualized tutoring and support for students with diverse needs, including those in special education or requiring literacy interventions.
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; adjust instruction accordingly.
- Mentor and collaborate with fellow educators on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and professional growth initiatives.
- Proofread and edit student work to enhance clarity, coherence, and adherence to style guides such as AP style or the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Engage in ongoing research to stay current with developments in linguistics, education theory, and innovative teaching methods.
- Support educational administration by participating in school meetings, curriculum reviews, and library services coordination.
- Foster strong communication with students, parents, and colleagues to promote academic success and behavioral management.
Experience
- Prior classroom experience teaching English at the middle school or high school level is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored to diverse learners.
- Strong background in literacy education, creative writing, journalism, or standardized testing preparation.
- Experience working with students from varied backgrounds including private schools or Montessori settings is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, AP style guidelines, proofreading techniques, and copy editing skills are essential.
- Familiarity with learning technology tools such as educational software platforms or digital assessment tools.
- Proven ability to mentor students effectively while managing classroom behavior and fostering organizational skills.
