Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and support in home health environments. The DSP is dedicated to fostering independence and promoting the well-being of the individuals they serve.
Duties
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide support in meal preparation and ensure nutritional needs are met.
- Facilitate social interactions and community engagement to enhance social skills.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each person's unique needs.
- Assist with mobility and physical support.
- Monitor and document changes in behavior or health status to inform care adjustments.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance overall well-being.
- Ensure a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and first aid procedures.
Skills
- Experience working with the elderly, and with people with disabilities in the community.
- Strong understanding of direct support principles and practices.
- Knowledge of home health care practices and senior care requirements.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
