Your service in our mission is to oversee volunteer resources to assist in the delivery of the organization's programs and services. This includes directly managing volunteers, and/or providing guidance, support, resources, and tools to staff who supervise volunteers.
The volunteer coordinator assistant helps recruit, train, schedule and recognize local volunteers. They build relationships in the community to grow the overall volunteer base and advance individual and group partnerships. They market within the community to recruit new volunteers and develop new events and opportunities for volunteers to engage with the mission of Habitat for Humanity. They assist with all aspects of volunteer management, including initial orientation, database maintenance and tracking, and promoting volunteer opportunities as they arise.
Project Tasks
- Volunteer Recruitment: The member will recruit and schedule volunteers for construction, office, HabiStore, CHUCK Center family services and special events opportunities.
- Volunteer Management: The member will assist with all aspects of volunteer management including orientations, maintenance of database, volunteer tracking and follow-up. They will develop and/or revise volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition tools.
- Event Coordination: Work with construction staff members to ensure successful volunteer build days signing volunteers in, providing orientation and safety briefings, and events.
Project Focus Areas
- Community Needs Assessment: The AmeriCorps member will evaluate the site's programs and services by engaging with stakeholders and conducting assessments, such as a SWOT analysis, to identify strengths and areas for growth. They will compile and present findings with recommendations to site leadership for consideration.
- Resource Distribution: The AmeriCorps member will support the effective distribution of resources by assessing needs, identifying gaps, and coordinating logistics to ensure access.
- Outreach: The AmeriCorps member will occasionally conduct outreach efforts to help promote Americorps programs, volunteering and programs offered to the community.
- Evaluation: The AmeriCorps member will assist in assessing the efficacy and efficiency of ongoing programs and services to beneficiaries; assess program impact; and make recommendations for improving programs based on evaluation results.
Requirements and Benefits
- Schedule Requirements: Typically serve Tuesday through Saturday at 40 hours a week to support work on the build sites or other sites.
Education, Skills and Abilities
● College degree or equivalent experience required
● 18 years or older, no upper age limit. All ages are welcome and encouraged to apply
● Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Internet-based communications
● Experience working in a non-profit setting or interactions with volunteers or board members.
● Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting in a consistent, energetic, positive manner
● Strong organizational and time management skills
● Group facilitation and public speaking skills
● Strong skills in utilizing social media
● Self-motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision
● Effective problem-solving skills
● A willing team member who isn’t afraid to multi-task
● Ability and desire to work with a variety of diverse individuals
● Ability to understand "big picture" while completing detail-oriented tasks
