OVERVIEW:
The Business Consultant plays a key role in the success of the Business Services division of CWI. The focus is to improve employers' access to qualified workers and to increase employer awareness of available resources, including technical workforce development assistance. In this position, the Business Consultant meets with businesses, determines their talent needs, and then develops and presents proposals that position the value of our resources and services. The Business Consultant must secure commitments from the employer to pay for services or to expend resources we have available through grant funding. The services provided by this position to businesses are flexible and multi-faceted and are available to identify various outside partners that assist in building and brokering our regional workforce system.
DUTIES:
1. Industry Expertise & Intelligence:
o Serve as primary contact for industry and occupation intelligence and provide relevant employer insights.
o Prepare and present on the workforce ecosystem within the Northwest Indiana community.
2. Business Recruitment & Relationship Management:
o Recruit new businesses to engage with core program services.
o Build and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with businesses.
o Serve as trusted workforce advisor to industry partners, chambers, economic development, educational system, and other key stakeholders in Northwest Indiana.
o Actively market and promote business services to customers.
3. Workforce Needs & Solutions Implementation:
o Identify and address workforce needs within Northwest Indiana.
o Tailor solutions for businesses, ensuring effective execution and follow-up.
4. Sales & CRM Management:
o Track all sales and business activities in designated systems, ensuring data is updated weekly.
o Maintain an active pipeline of business prospects.
5. Employer Engagement:
o Meet with employers regularly to identify needs, develop solutions, and provide strategic support.
o Work with employers to ensure alignment with regional workforce goals.
o Build and nurture long-term business relationships.
6. Confidentiality & Reporting:
o Handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality.
o Reports on activities, progress, and outcomes as requested.
7. Continuous Improvement:
o Seek ways to improve business services processes and share insights for system improvements.
o Analyze industry cluster data to generate intelligence on strategic approach and prospecting.
8. Cross-Department Collaboration:
o Influence various teams to ensure coordinated efforts in employer recruitment, training programs, placement and retention of clients
o Responsible for collecting documentation from external constituents and prioritize within prescribed timelines.

- High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two years related experience and knowledge of employment, training or workforce development, preferred.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a standard office environment, with employers in various industries, and in the community. Travel to all seven counties and to other agencies or a government unit is required. Trips outside the Region and overnight trips for meetings and/or training may be required on an 'as requested' basis.
- Must be able to spend periods of time away from home for implementation of special projects or attending agency-approved training
- Must be able to work outside regular 8 AM – 5:00 PM schedule when required
- Must be able to tour employers in varied industries (e.g., manufacturing plants, professional offices, construction sites, etc.) and wear appropriate attire and personal protective equipment to meet employer requirements
- Must have a car, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance with s100,ooo/s300,ooo liability coverage.
- Must have ability to effectively represent the corporation and deal with staff, participants, boards, external organizations, all types of media representatives, and governmental entities including state of Indiana agencies.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Works with the staff of the WorkOne system, the CWI operations team, local businesses, industry specific professional groups, local community-based entities, and members of the public.
