PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING
We sell bread and pastries at farmers markets, street fairs, festivals, and events throughout the Northeast. Our warehouse is located in Stony Point, NY (North Rockland). Please make sure you are familiar with the location and comfortable commuting here before applying.
REQUIRED
Please do not apply unless all of the following apply to you:
- You have a reliable personal vehicle that you can use for work.
- Your vehicle can be completely empty when you arrive, since you will be transporting products and market equipment.
- You are comfortable driving, including assignments that may require 2+ hours of driving each way.
- You are consistently available on Saturdays.
- You are comfortable with early morning starts, sometimes around 5:00 AM.
- You can communicate clearly with customers and understand detailed instructions in English.
- You have a reliable smartphone with cellular data.
- You are comfortable working independently and solving ordinary problems without constant supervision.
WHAT THE JOB INVOLVES
This is an independent sales position where you are responsible for running your assigned farmers market or event from beginning to end.
You will first come to our warehouse in Stony Point in the morning and load the bread, pastries, and equipment assigned to you. You will then drive your own vehicle to your assigned market or event.
We operate throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and other areas of the Northeast, so your destination will vary depending on your assignment.
Once you arrive, you will:
- Set up a farmers-market-style booth, including tables, products, and sometimes a tent and other equipment.
- Organize the products and make sure the setup looks clean and professional.
- Sell bread and pastries to customers for the duration of the market/event.
- Handle cash, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other approved transactions.
- Communicate professionally with customers, market managers, and event staff.
- Keep the stand organized throughout the day and handle normal situations independently.
At the end of the market/event, you will pack everything up, load your vehicle, drive back to our Stony Point warehouse, return the products and equipment, turn in the day's cash, and complete the required end-of-day procedures.
You do not need a truck or SUV. Most normal sedans and larger vehicles work perfectly well as long as the vehicle is empty. A two-seat vehicle will generally not work for this position.
This is also an active job. You will be loading and unloading products and equipment and setting up and breaking down a market booth. Most assignments are outdoors.
SCHEDULE
This position is primarily for weekend work, especially Saturdays.
Saturday availability is required. We do not offer weekday-only positions.
We operate markets and events seven days a week, and additional weekday assignments are available to our strongest performers. The people who receive the most opportunities are those who consistently demonstrate reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, independent problem-solving, and strong sales performance.
This can be an excellent position for someone who already works or attends school during the week and wants well-paid weekend work with a high degree of independence.
PAY
Pay is calculated based on the assignment, including the amount of time worked and the distance traveled.
For regular farmers markets, compensation is generally calculated as:
- $20/hour
- $0.70 per round-trip mile
- Additional $25 for warehouse pickup/drop-off
For larger events, the hourly portion is generally $22.50/hour, plus mileage and pickup/drop-off compensation.
Certain locations and especially large or busy events receive additional compensation.
When everything is included, most assignments work out to approximately $25/hour in total compensation.
A typical closer assignment may pay around $200 for the day, while farther or larger assignments can pay approximately $300, $400, or $500+, depending on the distance, hours, and event.
WHO DOES WELL IN THIS JOB
The basic routine is straightforward once you are trained, but doing the job well requires someone who is:
- Extremely reliable
- Punctual
- Organized
- Detail-oriented
- Comfortable working independently
- Good at following instructions
- Able to think and solve problems on their own
- Friendly and comfortable speaking with customers
- Motivated to sell
- Comfortable driving significant distances
You will generally be responsible for your assignment without a supervisor standing next to you. We provide detailed instructions and training, but we expect you to read them carefully, use good judgment, and handle normal situations independently.
If you are dependable, organized, comfortable driving, good with customers, and capable of working independently—and you have consistent Saturday availability—we would like to hear from you.
