American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Psychiatric Unit position requiring at least 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Work in a free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility with a contracted ER 5 minutes away
-
94-bed unit split between 50 pediatric beds (ages 5-18) and 44 adult beds (18+, including geriatric)
-
Care for patients admitted voluntarily and involuntarily, medically cleared prior to admission from the ED
-
Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
-
Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, MDD, and bipolar disorder, with occasional eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety

No forensic patients or inmates housed at this facility

RN patient ratios are 1:5-6 during days and 1:13 at night with resource support

Uses Cerner charting system and Pyxis medication dispensing

Shift schedule is 2:00 PM-11:30 PM, 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation required every other Saturday/Sunday
-
No on-call requirements, though overtime is available
-
Modified self-scheduling process with predetermined weekend rotation
-
Floating required between pediatric and adult units as needed
-
Active RN license (ME State or Compact) required
-
Current BLS certification required
-
MOAB certification obtained on-site during orientation
-
Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience required

Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred
-
Experience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraints required
-
Comfortable administering medication passes and leading group therapy sessions
-
Strong documentation skills required
-
Flu vaccination required for clearance to start, with medical exemptions only accepted
-
Provide medical and psychiatric care alongside specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
-
Opportunity to serve as Charge Nurse or Code Leader during patient escalations, though not required
-
Unit support includes DON/CNO, Nurse Manager, House Administrator, Charge Nurse, Psych Techs, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist, and Occupational Therapist
-
Security staff on-site do not respond to patient escalations; unit staff across all units respond as needed
-
Scenario-based de-escalation training offered every other week with an on-site MOAB Educator/Trainer
-
Debriefing form completed after any patient escalation event
-
Two-week orientation includes first week on day shift and second week on contracted shift
-
Holiday coverage expected in rotation

Scrubs must be any solid, professional color
