POSITION SUMMARY:
The School's Out Lead Instructor & 7-D Driver works alongside the Site Director to provide a safe, engaging, and high-quality out-of-school time program for elementary-aged children. This position combines program leadership with daily student transportation responsibilities.
Lead Instructors serve as role models for both children and staff by creating enriching learning experiences, mentoring team members, maintaining compliance with YMCA and Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations, and safely transporting students in an 8-passenger YMCA 7-D vehicle.
As a School's Out Lead Instructor & 7-D Driver, you'll do more than supervise children—you'll create meaningful experiences that inspire confidence, curiosity, and belonging while serving as a leader within your program. You'll also play an important role in ensuring children arrive safely to the program each day through student transportation.
Candidates who do not currently possess a Massachusetts 7-D Certificate must be willing to obtain certification within three months of employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Child Engagement
· Supervise and engage a group of elementary-aged children using positive guidance and behavior management strategies.
· Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where every child feels safe, respected, and supported.
· Encourage children's social, emotional, and academic growth through positive relationships.
Program Leadership
· Plan and facilitate engaging enrichment activities that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with YMCA program standards.
· Prepare activity materials in advance and provide structured homework support.
· Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming program environment.
· Model professionalism and serve as a leadership resource for program staff.
Staff Leadership
· Mentor and support Instructors and Assistant Instructors.
· Assist with onboarding and coaching new team members.
· Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive workplace culture.
Transportation
· Safely transport up to eight students between school and the YMCA program using a YMCA 7-D vehicle.
· Complete daily vehicle safety inspections and transportation documentation.
· Maintain a safe driving record and all required 7-D certifications.
· Follow all YMCA transportation policies and Massachusetts 7-D regulations.
Family & Community Engagement
· Build positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and community partners.
· Communicate professionally and effectively with parents and caregivers.
· Represent the YMCA's mission and values in all interactions.
Program Compliance
· Follow all YMCA, EEC, DPH, HEPA, CACFP, and Praesidium policies and procedures.
· Maintain attendance records, meal counts, and required program documentation.
· Participate in staff meetings and required professional development.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
· Must be 21 years of age or older.
· Valid Massachusetts Class A, B, C, or D driver's license held continuously for at least three years.
· Ability to obtain a Massachusetts 7-D Certificate within three months of hire.
· High school diploma or equivalent (proof of completion required).
· Minimum one year of experience working with elementary-aged children in a licensed or structured youth program.
· Ability to meet all EEC licensing and YMCA hiring requirements.
· Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred
· Current Massachusetts 7-D Certificate.
· College coursework or degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field.
· Experience mentoring or leading other staff.
· Experience facilitating enrichment activities such as STEM, arts, literacy, physical education, team building, or cooking and nutrition.
· Experience working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
· Flexibility to support other MetroWest YMCA School's Out locations as needed. (Ashland, Hopkinton, Framingham, Natick, Wayland)
ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT:
Employees who directly supervise youth will:
· Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
· Attend required abuse risk management training.
· Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
· Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
· Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
· Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse
risk.
· Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
· Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
· Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
· Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary
procedures.
· Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
· Follow mandated reporting requirements.
· Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their youth from
abuse.
· Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
