REPORTS TO: AQUATICS DIRECTOR
STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)
Summary:
This position is responsible for instructing swimming classes and water safety classes to the community
including swim team and adapted aquatics. The Water Safety Instructor also performs duties as a
lifeguard by safeguarding pool patrons through the enforcement of rules and regulations to prevent
injuries. Administers first aid and CPR as needed. Reports to the Aquatic Director.
Job Responsibilities
• Conduct swimming lessons and water safety programs according to American Red Cross
standards
- Develops and coordinates swim class
- Monitors the use of the swimming pools; enforces safety rules and maintains order and
discipline among swimmers
- Completes and submits documentation of completed swim lessons to the Aquatics director
- Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs
- Assists in other routine activities relating to pool operations & other events
Qualifications:
- The individual needs to be certified as a water safety instructor through the American Red Cross
- Ability to enforce rules and remain calm under stress
- Ability to clean and maintain a swimming pool
Education & Experience
High School diploma, GED, or advanced degree.
Preferred experience teaching swimming to infants, children and adults with special needs
Certifications / Professional Licenses
Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross water safety instructor certification with first
aid, CPR and AAED training

Salary: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour based on experience
