Duties
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current health status to tailor individualized care plans.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and the importance of maintaining healthy habits.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring accurate imaging for diagnosis while adhering to radiation safety protocols.
- Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review, treatment planning, and record keeping in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain strict infection prevention protocols by sterilizing dental equipment, practicing aseptic techniques, and managing healthcare infection control standards.
- Collaborate with the dental team to ensure seamless workflow during general dentistry procedures and pediatric dentistry cases.
- Monitor patient vital signs during visits to identify any health concerns requiring further attention or referral.
- Support the dental office’s commitment to confidentiality by safeguarding all medical records and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current credentials in good standing.
- Proven experience working in a dental office environment, preferably with pediatric dentistry or general dentistry specialties.
- Proficiency in dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for electronic health records management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to oral health care.
- Skilled in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting and X-ray procedures.
- Deep understanding of infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively about their oral health needs.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance management and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to work efficiently within a team using four-handed dentistry practices while managing multiple responsibilities confidently.
