Engineer II/III - Project Manager for the Stormwater Engineering Center

The Selected Candidate will work in the Project management section of the Stormwater Engineering Center in the Department of Public Works. The individual will perform a variety of duties of a complex nature related to stormwater in highly varied land-use settings including urbanized and coastal environments. Candidates must be self-motivated, highly organized, and possess excellent writing and communication skills. Representative work duties include but are not limited to:
- Project management for the City's Stormwater Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects and projects funded by other sources
- Review of complex reports and studies for various stormwater infrastructure systems including conceptual designs, preliminary engineering reports, cost estimates, design calculations or computations, exhibits, plans, drawings and specifications for culverts, stormwater conveyance channels, pipes or systems, stormwater management facilities, stormwater pump stations and other specialty devices such as tide gates and barriers
- Overall project development including planning, design, engineering, and construction support
- Bid and contract management for design and construction
- Conducting and preparing materials for public meetings

Minimum Requirements:
Engineer II Minimum Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Engineer III Minimum Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) and five (5) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
- Project management experience demonstrating the ability to manage several mid-sized projects, multiple small projects or a single larger project simultaneously desired
- Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in the design and construction of a variety of stormwater projects desired
- Experience in performing and review of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) stormwater design calculations and models
- Experience in municipal public works in the field of stormwater engineering desired
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Experience in coordinating with Environmental agencies on the Federal, State, Regional and Local level
- Experience managing projects with Federal / State funding guidelines
- Experience with VDOT/FHWA design standards, specifications, codes, policies, and procedures
- Experience presenting and working with the public
