TruNorth Federal Credit Union is seeking a motivated and service‑driven individual to join our team as a Consumer Loan Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting consumer loans while ensuring full compliance with credit union policies and regulatory requirements. You’ll work directly with members to evaluate loan applications, analyze financial information, and recommend personalized financial solutions that support their goals. This full‑time, nonexempt position is primarily based in Ishpeming, MI, with the possibility of working at our Marquette office, depending on business needs.
As a Consumer Loan Officer, you will play a key role in helping our members achieve financial stability and confidence. You’ll work closely with individuals to understand their needs, offer tailored lending solutions, and guide them through the loan process with clarity and care. A core part of your role includes integrating debt protection options that support members during unexpected life events, providing an added layer of financial security. Your strong financial analysis skills will help safeguard the financial well‑being of both our members and the credit union.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interview loan applicants and objectively underwrite a high volume of loans in accordance with established guidelines ensuring compliance with all rules and regulations.
- Ensure the successful delivery of loan services quickly, accurately, courteously, and in a confidential manner.
- Identify member needs and provide information regarding how the credit union’s products and services can meet those needs including ancillary products (GAP, debt protection, and other loan-related services).
- Provide quality member service ensuring the credit union’s professional image is maintained by delivering services efficiently, in a professional manner, and in compliance with existing regulations and policies.
- Provide excellent internal and external member service and respond to all member inquiries in a prompt and professional manner.
- Provide backup to other consumer and mortgage loan officers as needed.
- Provide backup and assist the collections department as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of lending practices, regulations, etc.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma
Preferences: Three years of experience in a business office setting
Lending experience
Experience in a financial institution
Post high school education or training
Compensation: Minimum $20/hour. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications/experience. Full benefit package including:
