JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under direct supervision, provides paraprofessional support to the City’s recreation, sports, lifelong learning, and special events functions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year experience providing recreational services to the public.
- College-level coursework in Education, Recreation, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Position is required to maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Must successfully complete required background screening.
- Additional certifications may also be required.
- Requires a valid Florida driver license.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Assists in planning and implementing recreation programs and activities for children and youth, teens, adults, seniors, and special needs populations; prepares program materials for recreational activities; instructs or guides program participants; provides information and assistance to recreation center visitors; and responds to inquiries by various communication methods. Assists in registration, filing, and data entry and in preparing attendance, cash, and other recreation reports. Cleans and maintains recreation and fitness facilities and equipment; assists in ensuring safe and sanitary conditions in compliance with Health Department, Fire, and other requirements and codes. Conducts safety inspections of playground equipment and assists in maintenance of park facilities.
- Youth Services: Responsible for supervising recreation activities for children, youth, and teens; provides instruction and supervision of youth league sports; assists in providing programs and special events for youth and adults at a variety of locations.
- Senior Services: Responsible for assisting in planning and administering activities such as social events, crafts, and fitness programs designed to meet the needs of older adults.
- Pool and Aquatics: Responsible for assisting in pool facility maintenance and in aquatic instructional and recreational programming for children, families, adults, and seniors.
- Teen Center: Responsible for assisting recreational activities for teens; provides instruction and supervision of youth league sports; assists in providing programs and special events for teens.
