River Valley Transit is a fast-growing, family-owned and operated company based in Kankakee, IL. We are seeking a Truck Driver with a Class A CDL to join our team that will be home every night. The role involves driving an average of 300 miles per day, with a maximum of 600 miles per day. Runs are scheduled from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday runs. You will be home every night. You must be willing to start your day between 3:00 am and 6:00 am and able to work until your assigned loads are finished. Come join our small group of drivers that enjoy being home every night.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Operate company-owned, newer Freightliner or International Day cabs equipped with wet kits, automatic transmissions and manual transmissions, ELDs, dash cameras, and GPS systems.
- Handle flatbed trailers, open top gondola trailers, and dump trailers.
- Drive an average of 300 miles per day, with a maximum of 600 miles per day, covering Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain the cleanliness of the truck, and report any maintenance needs.
- Follow detailed instructions from dispatchers.
- Handle double drops with some van work and open top gondola trailers, ensuring dump trailers are never left at a customer's yard.
- No touch freight.
Pay
- Salary Range $55,000-$85,000+
- Minimum hourly rate is $25.00 per hour during probationary period.
- After the 60-day probationary period, switch to 25% of what the load pays.
- Quick learners may be eligible to switch to load pay sooner increasing annual pay.
Job Requirements
- Active Voice Mail Set up on cell phone to assist in the application process.
- Current Class A CDL License
- Current Valid Medical Card
- Must be to obtain current driving history from DMV, no older than 7 days.
- Able to operate van trailers, top gondola trailers, roll off and dump trailers.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections including writing up needed maintenance reports.
- Responsible for keeping the truck clean and following pre and post inspections.
- Drive up to 600 miles per day with runs in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Missouri. Will be home each night.
- Must have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, have good attendance and must be reliable.
- Follow detailed instructions from your dispatcher.
- No touch freight.
- Handle double drops with some flatbed trailer, open top gondola trailers and dump trailers.
- Never leave dump trailers at a customer's yard.
- Work Monday-Friday and may have an occasional Saturday run. You day starts between 3:00 am and 6:00 am.
- Three years of clean verifiable CDL safe driving experience required.
