WR Transformers a North American manufacturer of dry-type electrical transformers. The company has over a decade of experience as has over 100 employes. With a partially automated production line and a young, dynamic team, we consider that each employee plays an essential role in maintaining high quality standards for our products. We are recognized for the quality of our products, which are found in various markets sectors such as: mining, data centers, AI, industrial, institutional. We’re looking for a highly seasoned leader to oversee the production of our dry-type transformers production plant. Reporting directly to the President, this role is about leading the team, managing risks, making sure we are producing top quality products.
Job Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational excellence, and financial performance of a dry type manufacturing plant. This role oversees production, quality, safety, maintenance, supply chain, and workforce management to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations while meeting customer, regulatory, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Lead all plant operations including production, packaging, warehousing, maintenance, and utilities.
- Ensure consistent achievement of production targets while maintaining product quality and cost controls.
- Implement and continuously improve manufacturing processes, productivity, and equipment utilization.
- Drive lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, specifications, and certifications relevant to dry type manufacturing.
- Oversee audits, inspections, and corrective actions related to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Financial & Business Performance
- Develop and manage plant budgets, forecasts, and operating expenses.
- Analyze financial performance and implement strategies to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
- Support capital planning, including equipment upgrades and facility improvements.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop department managers and plant personnel.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee workforce planning, training, performance management, and labor relations.
Supply Chain & Customer Focus
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and planning teams to ensure reliable material supply and inventory control.
- Collaborate with sales, technical, and customer service teams to meet customer requirements and delivery commitments.
- Address customer issues related to production, quality, or delivery in a timely and effective manner.
Strategy & Continuous Improvement
- Execute company strategies at the plant level and contribute to long-term operational planning.
- Lead continuous improvement projects related to safety, quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices relevant to dry type manufacturing.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5-6+ years of manufacturing experience, including senior leadership or plant management roles.
- Proven experience managing dry type or batch-based manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, maintenance systems, quality management, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and experience managing plant budgets and KPIs.
