Are you an MHRT-1 looking for flexible, rewarding behavioral health work where you can make a meaningful difference without sacrificing your other professional, educational, or personal commitments?
We are seeking motivated and compassionate MHRT-1 professionals to provide Direct Living Support (DLS) services to adults in the Waterville, Augusta, and surrounding communities.
This is an excellent opportunity for behavioral health professionals, college and graduate students, individuals working toward advanced mental health credentials, or experienced MHRT professionals seeking flexible part-time work with strong clinical support.
Why Join Our Team?
We want talented behavioral health professionals to feel supported—not simply assigned a caseload.
We offer:
- Flexible part-time scheduling
- Meaningful one-to-one community-based work
- Recurring clinical supervision and consultation
- Accessible program leadership and ongoing staff support
- Paid required MHRT-1 trainings
- Professional development opportunities
- Training in trauma-informed, person-centered, and harm-reduction approaches
- Support with clinical documentation and skill development
- Potential professional pathway toward MHRT/C certification for screened and eligible candidates
- An opportunity to gain valuable experience within Maine's community behavioral health system
What You'll Do
As a Direct Living Support professional, you will work individually with adults in their homes and communities to help them build the skills, confidence, and resources necessary to achieve greater wellness and independence.
Your work may include helping individuals:
- Develop independent and daily living skills
- Strengthen healthy routines and community connections
- Learn and practice symptom-management and coping strategies
- Improve communication and interpersonal skills
- Access and effectively utilize community resources
- Develop greater self-advocacy and independence
- Work toward individualized wellness and recovery goals
- Build confidence in managing everyday responsibilities
Our philosophy is simple: we work alongside individuals rather than doing things for them. The goal is to help each person identify their strengths, develop practical skills, and move toward greater independence and self-sufficiency.
You Won't Be Doing This Alone
Community-based behavioral health work can be challenging, which is why quality supervision and accessible leadership matter.
DLS staff receive recurring clinical supervision and ongoing opportunities for consultation and training in areas such as:
- Trauma-informed care
- Person-centered and strengths-based approaches
- Harm reduction
- Ethics and professional boundaries
- Diversity and culturally responsive practice
- Symptom-management strategies
- Clinical documentation
- Community mental health best practices
Our Program Coordinator and agency leadership are readily available for ongoing support, consultation, and problem-solving.
We'll Invest in Your Development
Eligible staff receive paid required training, including:
- Mental Health Support Specialist (MHSS)
- Behavioral intervention training
- Additional training necessary to obtain and maintain MHRT-1 certification, as applicable
For screened and eligible employees interested in continuing their professional development, we can also assist in identifying an individualized pathway toward obtaining the MHRT/C credential.
Whether you are already established in behavioral health or building toward your next professional goal, we want this position to contribute to your development.
What We're Looking For
Candidates must:
- Hold or be eligible to obtain MHRT-1/P or MHRT-1 certification
- Have a valid driver's license
- Have reliable transportation and current automobile insurance
- Successfully complete required background checks

- A behavioral health professional seeking meaningful part-time work
- A college or graduate student building experience in mental health or human services
- Interested in eventually pursuing MHRT/C certification

More Than a Part-Time Job
The strongest DLS professionals become important partners in an individual's journey toward greater independence.
You will have the opportunity to develop meaningful professional relationships, strengthen your own behavioral health skills, receive ongoing supervision and training, and see the tangible impact of your work in the lives of the individuals you support.
