Looking for steady, meaningful design patent work you can take on your own schedule? We're actively expanding our design patent practice and have an immediate opening for a US-registered patent practitioner to join our vendor network.
About Flatfee Corp:
Flatfee Corp provides end-to-end support — marketing, process management, recruiting, training, and client relationship management — for small and mid-sized companies expanding internationally. We work exclusively with foreign companies entering your local market, so there's no competition with your existing domestic clients. Assignments come at predictable, set rates, backed by a team-based structure that provides training, support, and quality control. We bring clients and administrative systems to you remotely — handling docketing, billing, payments, reminders, and templates on your behalf, with secure document storage and transfer, and immediate access to a global client base (plus referral credits for your own clients' global needs).
What We Offer
- Immediate, high-volume case flow
- Remote, flexible contract work you can fit around your existing practice
- A steady long-term pipeline, not one-off or sporadic assignments
- Direct USPTO Customer Number authorization so you can start the matters quickly
Compensation & Structure
Flatfee operates on a flat-fee, high-volume model, which allows us to offer clients standardized, budget-friendly pricing for routine legal and compliance services. For this, that translates to a per-order range of $70–$490, depending on complexity. In return, Flatfee handles all client-facing documents and communication on our end — your role is focused entirely on the legal work itself, without the administrative overhead of client management.
Qualifications for US Design Patent Practitioner:
- USPTO registration: Registered Patent Attorney or Registered Patent Agent listed on the USPTO Office of Enrollment and Discipline (OED) roster (Registration Number required).
- Patent Attorney: must also hold an active bar license in at least one US state or territory (in good standing).
- Patent Agent: must have passed the USPTO registration exam (“Patent Bar”).
- Technical background sufficient to meet USPTO Category A/B/C requirements(typically an accredited engineering, science, or design-related degree, or equivalent coursework).
- Demonstrated design patent prosecution experience— able to prepare and prosecute US design patent applications end-to-end, including drawings review, Office Action responses, and Issue Fee filings.
- Familiarity with 37 CFR §§ 1.152–1.155(design patent drawing rules), MPEP Chapter 1500, and the current design-specific practice items (e.g., partial claiming with broken lines, priority claims, CIP/continuation strategy for designs).
- Ability to work with Patent Center(USPTO’s e-filing portal) and produce USPTO-compliant drawings (or coordinate with a draftsperson).
A Note on Current Workload
A significant portion of our current caseload involves Office Action responses, so we especially welcome candidates with strong, hands-on OA response experience — not just new application drafting. If you're someone who can turn around a substantive OA response efficiently and reliably, we have many open positions available immediately.
Onboarding
Once fully onboarded, we'll add your USPTO Registration Number to our USPTO Customer Number roster so you're fully authorized to prosecute the design patent matters we represent.
