Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Die Service Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance on plastic injection molding dies to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and production efficiency. This role supports the tooling department by maintaining molds in proper working condition, identifying wear or potential issues early, and assisting with tooling repairs and improvements as needed. The position plays a critical role in reducing downtime, extending tool life, and maintaining product quality.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plastic injection molding dies according to established maintenance schedules and procedures.
Disassemble, clean, inspect, lubricate, and reassemble molds and related tooling components.
Inspect tooling components for wear, damage, or performance concerns.
Maintain detailed maintenance records, including work performed, observations, and parts replaced.
Ensure molds are production-ready and meet quality standards before being returned to the floor.
Tooling Support & Repair
Assist Toolmakers and Tooling Technicians with mold repairs, troubleshooting, and modifications as needed.
Replace worn components such as springs, pins, bushings, inserts, and other tooling components.
Support root cause analysis of tooling-related production issues.
Assist with mold change preparation and tooling setup support when required.
Operational Support
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the toolroom and mold storage areas.
Follow all safety procedures and proper handling practices for molds and tooling equipment.
Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling maintenance and reliability.
Communicate maintenance concerns or improvement opportunities to leadership.
Other Duties
Support production and maintenance teams as needed to resolve tooling issues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This role is required to be on-site 5-6 days/week at the Clinton Township, Michigan site location.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred
Technical training in tooling, machining, or mold maintenance preferred.
3+ years of experience working with plastic injection molds, tooling maintenance, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
Skills and Competencies
Basic understanding of plastic injection molding dies and tooling components.
Ability to safely disassemble and reassemble molds.
Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read basic prints and tooling documentation preferred.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move tooling components with appropriate lifting devices.
Ability to stand, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
The expected pay range for this position is $24-29/hour
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location.
