Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our emergency department team for night shifts at a prominent healthcare facility. As a Travel RN, you will be responsible for managing acute patient needs, performing comprehensive assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients presenting with diverse acute conditions, including trauma, cardiac emergencies, infectious diseases, and respiratory issues.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and history-taking to inform clinical decision-making.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, injections, suturing, and medication reconciliation.
- Utilize advanced airway management techniques and ventilator support as needed in critical situations.
- Document all patient interactions and interventions precisely within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and initial interpretation of results.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, radiology teams (including CT imaging), laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like catheterizations and wound care to prevent infections.
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations utilizing critical care response protocols and trauma medicine standards.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Skills
- Proven experience working in emergency room settings within Level I or Level II trauma centers.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to emergency medicine.
- Skilled in performing advanced procedures including IV insertion, suturing, catheterization, and tube feeding management.
- Familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding for documentation accuracy.
- Experience in critical care environments such as ICU or PICU is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform rapid patient assessments and prioritize interventions effectively under pressure.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Excellent communication skills for clear documentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Understanding of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational injuries is advantageous.
- Capable of working independently during night shifts while maintaining high standards of patient safety.
