Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Transport freight using refrigerated trailers, or specialized equipment for hazardous materials (Hazmat) when qualified.
- Utilize GPS navigation systems to follow optimized routes and ensure timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Load and unload cargo efficiently, managing logistics cargo handling with precision and care.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to maintain safety standards and vehicle performance.
- Load & unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper securing of dangerous goods or hazardous materials as per hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and compliance records while communicating effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates or delivery status.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on route driving and delivery driving.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, and hazardous materials regulations for safe transportation of dangerous goods.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and tractor-trailers with manual handling expertise.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed hauling, tanker operations, and automobile transportation is highly desirable.
- Proficient in GPS navigation tools for efficient route planning on OTR driving routes.
- Ability to load & unload freight safely while adhering to truck loading and unloading procedures.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; experience in truck loading/unloading and logistics cargo handling is preferred.
