Essential Functions: Bus Monitor $18 per hour, Bus Driver $27per hour
Bus Monitors oversee students over scheduled routes and to and from special excursions; enforce rules, regulations, and laws
to maintain safety during transport; and ensure safety during transport, loading and unloading from buses.
In the absence of a daily bus driver, maintains safe operations of the assigned school bus, transports students to and
from assigned hub location, campuses and field trips.
Bus Monitor Responsibilities:
● Supervise students during loading, transportation, and unloading procedures.
● Maintain order and appropriate student behavior while riding the bus.
● Enforce school transportation rules, policies, and safety procedures.
● Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
● Conduct student attendance verification and maintain accurate ridership records.
● Ensure students are released only to authorized individuals when applicable.
● Communicate transportation concerns, incidents, or student behavior issues to school administration.
● Monitor students for safety concerns, illness, injuries, or emergencies and respond appropriately.
● Assist with emergency evacuation procedures and safety drills.
● Conduct visual inspections of the bus to ensure no students or belongings remain onboard after routes are completed.
● Support transportation operations during field trips and other school-sponsored activities
Bus Driver Responsibilities:
● Drives buses and transports students to and from hub location to campus, between the hours of 6:00am to 8:30am and 2:00pm-5:00pm.
● Provides transportation for scheduled field trips/activities, as well as an opportunity to provide transport for summer-camp
● Conducts thorough pre-trip and post trip inspections of the vehicle and its equipment
● Upholds safety requirements, including providing maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading and conducting emergency drills.
● Maintains orderly conduct of student passengers.
● Maintains routes and schedules planned by the Director of Operations
● Communicates effectively with school personnel and parents
● Maintains external and internal cleanliness of bus as required for safe comfortable operation
● Delivers bus to fuel stations and maintenance facilities as needed
● Attends all in-service safety and training meetings as required by the state and GLOBE
● Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Knowledge of basic motor vehicle and school bus operations.
● Knowledge of local and state traffic ordinances
● Knowledge of school bus safety policies and procedures.
● Good written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance procedures.
● Ability to maintain accurate vehicle records.
● Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
● Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling, regular heavy lifting.
Qualifications:
Possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger & School Bus (P&S) endorsements. Must also include air brakes endorsement.
● Must provide a 3-year motor vehicle report (Major traffic citations may exclude consideration and Minor traffic citations such as parking tickets are not considered)
● Successful completion and clearance of pre-employment and random drug testing
● Must pass a physical examination by a licensed Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy within 60 days prior to the date of employment in accordance with the approved examination (DE Form 0514) prescribed by the State Board of Education.
