Dual Chief Engineer
Position Summary
The Dual Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and execution of engineering and maintenance operations across multiple hotel properties. This position ensures each hotel is maintained in a safe, efficient, and guest-ready condition while maximizing asset value, maintaining brand standards, controlling expenses, and leading high-performing engineering teams. The Dual Chief Engineer partners closely with General Managers, regional leadership, and corporate support teams to maintain preventative maintenance programs, manage capital projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver exceptional service to guests and associates.

The individual must maintain excellent attendance, possess reliable transportation between assigned properties, and demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Travel between assigned properties is required.
Home base: Manchester, with a 3-day Manchester / 2-day Nashua rotation, alternating every other week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations for multiple hotel properties.
- Monitor comprehensive preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment life and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all hotel facilities, guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, pools, kitchens, mechanical systems, and exterior grounds are maintained to company and brand standards.
- Conduct routine property inspections, document deficiencies, establish corrective action plans, and follow through to completion.
- Partner with General Managers to prioritize maintenance projects and ensure consistent execution across all assigned hotels.
- Lead capital improvement planning, project execution, vendor coordination, and renovation efforts while minimizing operational disruption.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage engineering department operating budgets and capital expenditures.
- Analyze utility usage and recommend energy conservation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, fire life safety, environmental, health, and building code requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for preventative maintenance, inspections, permits, equipment repairs, life safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, refrigeration, electrical systems, plumbing, water treatment, generators, elevators, kitchen equipment, pools, laundry equipment, and other building systems.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations and coordinate corrective action across assigned properties.
- Develop relationships with contractors, vendors, and service providers while ensuring quality workmanship and cost-effective service.
- Review vendor contracts, negotiate pricing when appropriate, and monitor contractor performance.
- Support hotel operations by responding promptly to maintenance concerns that impact guest satisfaction.
- Work collaboratively with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Sales, and other departments to resolve facility-related issues.
- Participate in Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities as assigned.
- Promote a culture of safety by ensuring proper equipment use, chemical handling, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA compliance.
- Investigate maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Provide regular reports to senior leadership regarding maintenance performance, capital needs, compliance, and operational priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide direct leadership for Assistant Chief Engineers, Engineering Supervisors, and Maintenance Technicians across multiple properties.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, evaluate, and develop engineering team members.
- Establish performance expectations and hold teams accountable for safety, productivity, preventative maintenance completion, and guest satisfaction.
- Conduct regular property visits to mentor engineering leaders and ensure consistency in maintenance standards.
- Assist with succession planning and employee development.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Implement disciplinary action, performance improvement plans, and recognition programs in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure all engineering associates receive ongoing safety and technical training.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in engineering, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive hotel engineering experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Previous experience managing engineering operations for multiple properties, large full-service hotels, or dual facilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, boilers, life safety systems, building automation systems, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience managing operating budgets, capital projects, and outside contractors.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and construction documents.
- Strong computer skills, including maintenance management software and Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel regularly between assigned hotel properties.
